I tried mounting them internally on different computers and everything.
No dice. So, I guess the only thing I can do is be grateful for the fact
that I only had about 1 1/2 years' worth of semi-seriously pursued
photography to lose. And then I can hope for some kind of surprise
financial windfall where all I have to do is spend a night in the
haunted house of a recently deceased, long-lost relative in order to
inherit a secret fortune.
If you were to open up the case of the hard drive, there would be a
circuit board, and the sealed platter mechanism. There is a good chance
that it is the circuit boards that are fried, and the the platters (the
disks themselves) which have the actual data on them are in good shape.
