Where I've experienced problems with the A series plastic aperture

The A50's have never caused me any problems, and they are so much more
functional then the K's or M's.
Well, the A50/1.7 is the only lens I have had such problems with. The M version somehow seems slightly more well built...

Only, because it is.

I agree. There is not much difference in Pentax 50mm lens performance
from the K50/1.4 thru M50/1.4, A50/1.4, and FA50/1.4. Same for the
K50/1.7 thru M50/1.7, A50/1.7, and F50/1.7. I expect the same applies
to the F50/1.4 and FA50/1.7, but I've never used those particular
lenses (or even held copies of them). Regards, Bob S.
If relatively similar optically then one must look beyond the optics
when making a choice.
Shallower DOF. Build quality (the A50 f1.7 is notorious for aperture
ring problems due to plastic internal tab construction that is
apparently not a problem on its siblings lenses. Tactile preferences.
etc.

I've settled on the A50 f1.4 for the most bang-for-the-buck and
ease-of-use. I keep a K55 f1.8 around just because it is so cheap
(some people seem to prefer the 55 to the 50, but I don't think I'm
one of them). I've got the equiv in SMC Takumars, mostly for my
Spotmatics.

Don't lose heart! They might want to cut it out, and they'll want to avoid a
lengthily search.
