I cant speak for the af lenses..... As far as manual focus lenses go, each new series went downhill than the previous after the fabulous Super-Multi-Coated Takumars.
so it may be, but the fact that many of us are still using the lesser of those builds decades later attests that on the whole the builds were pretty good
