Not necessarily. Just as the DA 35mm f2.4 has cut the legs out of the used market for the slightly faster 35mm f2.0 lenses, I think Pentax realizes that they are competing with their own used lens market. The fact that it is a f1.8 and not a f1.4 sort of makes that clear. F50 f1.7s are now consistently going for north of $200, so a 50mm f1.8 that comes in at a price similar to the DA 35mm f2.4 (sub-$200) would probably sell in comparable numbers. In fact, I think a case could be made that the healthy used market sort of dictates which lenses are reasonable to build next.
