They're certainly profitable. They've made a religion out of it
actually, or their customers have.

I'd venture to say a significant portion of customers can't define why
they bought Apple just like a significant portion of Nikon or Canon
users can't define why they bought those products as opposed to
another.

As someone stated, a large portion of the camera buying public doesn't
realize there's different sensor sizes.

Apple doesn't really boast about what they don't have. They claim to
be superior to other products and be better at doing whatever function
A or B. That judgement call is at least as subjective as what kind of
camera system one purchases.

Anyway, not trying to debate on it. Better things to do on a Sunday. :)
