I think what the K-5 does is wait until you're finished shooting a burst (almost impossible not too in fast-continuous mode) before it goes about building the JPEG for the LCD. I find that if I want to chimp a shot, I must wait from 3 to 10 seconds before it's available to view.
I can only assume it has already stored the DNG without flashing the activity light, maybe not. I know if I shoot a burst of ten, I'm not slowed down by any storage activity, probably buffered to a certain point. Never read that part in the manual. After all, it's just a fancy P&S.
