you can do really good high-bitrate recording with a proper ADC (analog-to-digital converter) such as the (dated) PreSonus Firebox that i use; there are many options, from very inexpensive USB units to spendy audiophile types

also note that it's becoming more common to find digital music downloads recorded at much better than "CD quality"; just an example (not an endorsement):
