Logitech Squeezebox would do this, Every room in my house has a
Squeebox unit. They killed the product because it's complex for
average users and plan to sell a new product Logitech UA, it's very
basic at the moment.
The other option is Sonos,

The cheap route on a PC are bluetooth transmitters on the PC and
bluetooth receivers on the stereo amp.

For Apple computers I would look at Airplay.
