That sounds like the mirror motor problem that plagued my K-5 and Christine's. 
That's how it started, and removing the battery was my temporary fix as well.  
If it is that, it may progressively get worse. CRIS said they could fix it, but 
due to a parts shortage, they ended up sending me a new camera instead.
