Glad to read your assessment that my problem is probably less serious. I tend 
to agree. I've cleaned the contacts and am ready to give it a good workout in a 
couple days.
Stuff is in my way for the time being. :)

After reading Christine's post I recall that while my problem began as a 
refusal to focus, the camera quickly developed a repeated clicking noise, as 
though the shutter was being deployed, although no exposures were made. That 
was the mirror flopping around.  So, Jack, you're probably looking at something 
less serious, perhaps just dirty contacts, as CRIS suggested.
