Huh.  Well, my 16-50 doesn't even have the decency to pretend to make
the effort to focus.  It just sits there, doing nothing,  as I get
increasingly annoyed.  But, I focus with the back AF button.. I wonder
if that makes any difference here?

And I am usually set to AF-C... on the k-5 you can select if you want
to prioritize focus or fps in AF-C, btw...  I'm set to fps right now,
so it should go off, as you say...

Congrats on the new k-5, you will enjoy it!  I saw your photo of the
k-7, too -- impressive wear!  If you do decide to keep it, I doubt you
will mistake it for the k-5, as I did, anytime soon!
