Well, it's a one-time purchase and, as you noticed, it does reduce the voltage. The S76 will last as long as the mercury cells and, best of all, are readily available. If the price was a real factor in our lives, would we have the equipment that we own now? It's not like a costly specialty lens that you only use once in a while. You need the battery for every frame you shoot, regardless of lens. Unless you want to carry around a hand held meter. They use batteries too, for the most part.
