Jerry R., List: I am afraid that I remain at a loss. I see no answers to my questions in your response, and can find no thread that ties together your series of quotes from Peirce and others. Our ways of thinking--or at least our ways of expressing our thoughts--seem to be incompatible, so I will bow out for now. Perhaps someone else can offer feedback that will shed enough light to help me make heads or tails of all this.
