and, for those important topics that we aren't quite sure what the IETF impact is going to be or even if there is any, I want to mention that it is always possible to spin up a related research group in the IRTF. "Research" in the widest possible sense of "not (yet) engineering" - not necessarily academic science. It'd need a few folks determined to run the show and grow/form the community. There certainly seems to be energy in this space at the moment. The nice thing about the IRTF is that have way fewer processes than the IETF; for example, IRTF groups need not operate by consensus and can even be closed membership. Lars
