I actually bought (registered, and ordered a backup copy on CD of) the full
blown DivX Codec and Converter for Windows (no longer availiable for Lunix
although there was a version awhile back) might be worth look at seeing if
this runs ok under wine. The Rips I get under wndows\divx is damn near as
good as watching the DVD itself, no dropped frames and awesome audio
quality, the only issues I had with it were on a couple of DVDs, the audio
for some reason didnt match the mouth actions as it was about a fraction of
a second off-set, this was annoying but I managed to correct it using a free
bit of sotfware called VirtualDub, again all on windows, I just need to
spend some time to see if I can gat these working on Linux / Wine.

I have to confess this last couple of months I have been lazy, and taking
the easy option of booting into windows where the programs are already
installed and working.

I really do need to play around with Linux more.

Regards

Richard

So far all I've done was install DVD::Rip using Automatix, then clicked
a few buttons and the job was done!

To be fair the results weren't great - dropped frames and poor audio
sync, but that could have been at playback not at rip, and it could be
easy to tweak, I just haven't looked at it yet.

On Windows, FairUseWizard is pretty good, and in the past I've got that
to run fine under Wine.
