Hi Lisa, The difference between endocrinologists and neuroendocrinologists is that an endo specializes in general hormone study and a neuro-endo specializes in specifically the glands (pituitary, hypothalamus, pineal) that produce hormones in the brain. Endos are usually diabetes and thyroid specialists. Neuro-Endos are pituitary/hypothalamus specialists. Generally, neuro-endos are better doctors for pit tumor patients. Regarding your nausea...have you noticed if it is when you eat certain foods? I used to vomit every morning upon waking...for over 1 1/2 years. I certainly kept the weight off and ate barely anything. I existed on cereal and milk...and always wondered why everything I ate (no matter what) made me sick. My GI diagnosed me with IBS and GERD...and tested for esophagael and stomach ulcers/cancer...and found none. I had several gallbladder ultrasounds. I was miserable...sick every time I ate. Come to find out, I am severely lactose intolerant. I get sick if there is a small amount of lactose in anything...and I had been drinking 2 gallons of skim milk a week! It was crazy. Now, I am very careful about what I eat and I no longer vomit every day. Lactose intolerance seems to be common in pit patients...not sure why. Anyways...that's why I was nauseous. Consider what you're eating...maybe it's an intolerance/allergy. Did you submit your request to Dr. Mayberg? I was going to consult him at one time and his one request was for me to get another MRI done (I had an open one done and the films were grainy.) I hope that they will be able to help you. Did you set up an appointment with a neuro-endo @ CC, as well? Don't give up your quest for a diagnosis...just take a break when you need to. I always find my breaks from seeing docs energize me to learn more, push more, and question more. Take care. I hope you hear from CC, soon. Hava great weekend! Meri |
