Hello friends. I had my surgery last Monday, and it went well. I was in ICU a couple days, and then to a regular room for a couple days. They confirmed my diagnosis of Acromegaly, and said the tumor was a growth hormone secreting tumor. Some of my other homone levels that were normal before surgery, are now out of whack, but it may take some time for everything to settle down. I'll be having more tests tomorrow to check levels again. I saw the surgeon today, and he gave me some bad news. The post operative MRI shows that I still have a cyst. There was a tumor AND a cyst, but they were separated by a layer of pituitary. So when he took out the tumor, he saw the pituitary, and thought he got everything. He wants me to come back in 4 months to have surgery again to remove the cyst. The endocrinologist feels that the cyst should come out due to the possiblity of hemmoraging. The day I came home from the hospital, I said I am so glad that's over, and I hope it never grows back, cause I never want to go through that again. I can't believe that one week after surgery, I have to get used to the idea of doing it again. They discussed doing it immediately, but said it would be too risky with infection at this point. So, I will wait, and pray, and try not to think about it too much. Thank-you all for having me in your thoughts and prayers. I am glad that I found this group to talk to and I welcome any advice/thoughts/questions you have. Sincerely, Laura |
