Laura,

Having a cyst and a tumor is extremely rare. I went to pubmed and look for articles that discuss incidences of multiple pituitary tumors/ cysts, the incidences are low.

"During the past 11 years 69 patients underwent transsphenoidal surgery for symptomatic intra- and suprasellar non-neoplastic cysts in our department.

Additional tumorous tissue was encountered in three cases that harbored a concomitant pituitary adenoma. "

Intra- and suprasellar colloid cysts.
Pituitary. 1999 Aug;2(2):123-6.

That is 3 cases at this hospital, over 11 years.

You can ask your surgeon to show you where the cyst is in relation to where the pituitary tumor was. It is possible that the cyst was in a different location from the pituitary tumor.

Knowing the low incidence of dual tumors, and talking to your doctor more about your presentation, then you may understand more about your unique case.

I am so very happy that the doctors decided to give you time to heal before going back in for surgery.

We will all keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Our greatest prayer is that you are cured of your acromegaly.

With kind thoughts...

Minnie
