Hi, I am not on pkg-discuss@ list for some time (and will not be) but after some discussion today with Shawn Walker I would like to point on
http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=15022 Shawn's oppinion is that it is too wide/generic and suggested to send this to pkg-discuss@ Because I believe performance of packaging system should be tracked and compared to other packaging system (we can ignore SVR4 partially because of simplicity of SVR4 if you want, but Red Hat YUM/RPM is on very same level of features from customer's point of view) I am sending this e-mail as short info. For now after elimination of file system caches and download deliverables IPS is (at least) 3x slower than YUM/RPM. I am not IPS internals expert nor others involved on bug submittion so we have no good possibility to discover the reasons for this performance issue. Please, before answering "we have rich set of features so we are slower", read carefully the comments.
