The point that Shawn was trying to make, and that the other participants

Not to put to fine a point on it, but actually this needs further
explanation.
The entire packaging system is still a work in progress. Performance
today is no indication of how performance will be if/when we finally
ship an enterprise release. The traditional model for ON development
has teams deliver finished, or phased products to the gate. We're not
in ON yet, and our project is still under active development. Compare
both features and performance of 2008.05 to our upcoming 2010.03 release
to get a sense of what we've been up to.
Work in progress, no measure of things to come? So why the heck has it
been included in releases that even support contracts have been sold for?
If you'd like to contribute and have a specific idea for making
performance better, that's great. We're always happy for competent
help. As it stands, we have a bunch of ideas for improving performance
and will continue to work on those until we finish pkg(5).
Great, as long as once we make a serious release (since OpenSolaris does
not seem to cut the bill at least in mind of some teams) with bug or
without I am all happy for it.
It would be really good to know, what the performance goals/expectations
are. And in general what the specs are. Otherwise competent help and
constructive bug filing are really not possible.
