and as for the whiners who want their rebates.. get real!!

i hate sounding like such an ass (i don't even work for smart or any of
their affiliated companies). but the average customer is such a whiner who
has no conception of the expense it takes to roll out these types of
service.

here's a factoid for all you smart wifi whiners:

i estimate that your first year of 988-a-month payments only covers the cost
of the CPE and base station port cost. in other words, the bandwidth is
free.

PLDT/Smart must've got a good deal if 988 is only the cost of the CPE

Should've been 988/month. But yeah, that amount for one year won't even cover the cost of the entire thing.

and base station. As I supply high power wifi access points and antennas, never have I seen the prices dip _that_ low, even with massive discounts included.

Doing the math (without the discounts first):
125mW wifi AP (good reception) : P8000 (exclusive of shipping). 15dbi gain antenna (good reception, omni): P8000 (exclusive of shipping). I dunno the prices for panel antennas (haven't sold any).
25ft LMR400 cable: P3700 per 25/ft.
NTC wifi registration: P1000 (outdoor)

I might've already inflated them, so wrt prices, YMMV

Of course, PLDT can order a lot more in bulk, but given that they have to pay VAT, labor, etc, I can't imagine how they'd take P988 without a loss. Maybe economics of scale?
