I agree. I *do* require those features that mysql doesn't have yet. so I use postgresql. I look forward to a few years from now, when the features that I need will be in mysql and then I'll have a real choice. > we all know that the superiority of a product (based on whose > standards?) alone is not enough to make it successful in the > marketplace. it all depends on the size of the demand and > how to monetize it. and timing. mysql is a clear example of "Worse is better". just as, e.g., perl was. Both were available and were licensed in a way that allowed them to be used for free so that they could gain market share. market share has its own momentum. That's not sour-graping by the way. i don't care very much that mysql is more commonly deployed than postgresql :-). I'm happy that both are available, and that mysql is improving on that third leg of correctness. tiger _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
