You know, there are lots of USB-c docks out there that accept a USB-C power
brick input, and have USB-c cables that plug into a laptop or PC, and also
supply power (that comes from the brick) and have USB-C ports on them that you
can both power a scanner like this and obtain data from it.

So even if you are dealing with a scanner that lacks a barrel input, you can
still power it.

The other thing I think I am missing in this discussion is that this scanner is
$250 and for only $220 you can pick up a Canon ImageCLASS MF455dw all in one
laser printer that has a scanner/document feeder on it that takes way more than
20 sheets at a time, also has a flatbed scanner, scans duplex, and scans far
faster than the toy scanner you are arguing over.

In the past I've had a few -small- customers buy these tiny scanners like this
and, it was done for employees who literally refused to get out of their chairs
and waddle 20 feet away to the large multifunction scanner printer.

Then the scanner was discarded 6 months later when they added another employee
into the same office, halving desk real-estate.

There's actually a lot of thought recently on the idea of office layouts and a
number of business school people have observed that if you give an employee a
desk with large real estate, (because the employee says they need to spread
out) it encourages the accumulation of clutter, and acquisition of personal
printers (because they don't want to use the big printer down the hall) and
other office tools which allow the employee to literally never leave their
chairs.

Then the employees 6 months later are out sick all the time because of
backaches and mental health issues. This has also been observed in many Work
From Home environments. Psychologists, also, have observed detrimental effects
to relationships when both spouses WFH all day in the same house.

It seems people are healthier when they work in an environment that forces them
to get up out of their chairs during the day and, ya know, walk to the
copier/printer, interact with other people, etc.

Who knew?

Well - I believe that there is no barrel shape DC connector on the scanner
- thus only way to power it is through the usb-c power + data.

My understanding is based on this review which clearly, IMHO, describes it as
possible down side.

https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/brother-ads-1800w

I couldn't see any clear picture of back side of the scanner. The spec sheet
doesn't mention any other power input other than usb-c either.

Hope that explains it,
Tomas
