so it was an implied parallelism with XP if it didnt support some
network/security standards. (there wouldnt have been a realistic reason
to replace their Win9x boxes).

now at least it comes down to 2 things: graphics & networking. probably,
microsoft can get away with driving the graphics industry. glitches in
graphics standards is not too costly for most of us. but it cannot drive
the networking standards because a slight hickup can affect the Internet.
that's probably the reason why ppl here involved in networks bet
their jobs on some linux flavor, and with piece of mind, relax afterwards
with their windows gui gaming rigs.
