you are right that those are newbie questions but i think the main reason these are not asked is because most distro present an organized menu structure that most users will deduce easily that if they want to play an mp3, they might want to checkout the multimedia menu. if you are looking for a forum that is mostly inhabited by non-IT users then i invite you to check out the board in my signature below. It's mandrake-centric but not mandrake-exclusive.
