Hi.
Are there any open source webmail software that opens as fast as yahoo? I'm currently using squirrel mail (I tweaked conf.php already). And it seems that the larger my mail box is, the longer it takes to download... obviously :)
Hi Jopoy,
Yes, the larger your mailbox the longer squirrelmail will take to download your mailbox, SM is parsing your filesystem for your mails and displaying it via a web interface, so just like what you said...the problem is "obvious" ;-), it really is slow because of factors like disk I/O, latency, filesystem type, etc. Hence, personally, I dont think any webmail interface is significantly faster than the other.
The most suitable setup that I find for a webmail service is by *NOT*
using Mailbox or Maildir for mail stores but by using SQL database(s) to store the messages, this makes a lot of sense because database queries are much faster than parsing a filesystem.
What I am using for this kind of solution is dbmail (http://www.dbmail.org). Like I said, since its using database to store the mails, webmail experience is much, much faster than when using Mbox/Maildir.
My dbmail setup is: Postfix -> Amavisd-new -> Postfix -> Dbmail
POP3 and IMAP daemons are included in dbmail so you need not to worry about those.
