True, however MySQL and PgSQL have historically been so stable on reasonable loads that it actually is a non-issue :)
True, I've been using MySQL for some years now and the stability is awesome, for a free database, it's very hard to beat, unless you have a specific advance requirement that MySQL or Postgre cannot provide.
The more important issue is the more complex administration and maintenance overhead associated with SQL servers in general, _as_compared_ to maintenance of a file system.
Yes, additional learning curve is necesessary, but learning SQL is plus point to any Administrator ;-).
Agree, you need some additional database maintanance on some systems.
With regards to dbmail, there is no manual maintenance required, maintenance are done by a script which can be run using cron.
Plus the fact that (as mentioned in the link i provided) newer more modern file systems (like reiserfs) actually incorporate techniques used in SQL engines (reiserfs uses b+trees internally) which gives you a little of both worlds.
Yes, filesystem plays an important role too, reiserfs for small files, XFS on large files.
I think its more like the people hanging around in the postfix mailing lists will more or less choose cyrus or courier based on their experience in handling large-volume email servers.
Indeed, Most of the postfix guys uses cyrus, some uses courier, but still, many are still using MBOX which is generally very good on POP accounts.
But it doesn't mean postfix doesn't work well with alternatvie solutions like dbmail :)
Postfix the great MTA, works very well with most if not any mail stores, mail processors even content filter plugins (just not in mailscanner ;-)
Im sure there is no argue with that...hehehe :-)
