The server version is Logitech Media Server Version: 7.8.1 Yes I know there's a more recent one, but I hate the more recent one. It extracts every artist on a compillation or soundtrack album and creates a top level entry for them - mostly people I've never heard of with only one track from one album, yet they have a top level listing. I can't surpress it and if it is possible I don't have enough hours in the day to figure it out, so it's easier to revert to 7.8.1 that behaves the way i want it to by default! As for which OS - tha't a tricky one. It runs on the first version (v1) of the RadyNAS Duo. I believe the CPU is a Sparc. I also believe this is irrelevant since it's always run every other version of every other Logitech app. I think it's a configuration issue. Persuant to that I am about to try bpa's suggestion - yes bpa - the config was different to what you suggest; I have changed it and am off to test it now with your suggested changes.
