I stand corrected - It appears that I CAN get the SBC's keys to send ir
codes even when not in the SqueezeIR's screen!! The issue is should
keys like play and back send IR commands every time they are pressed or
only when in certain screens? How should it be defined which screens
cause the buttons to send which codes? Can I (and should I) let the
default behaviour of the buttons be over-ridden when not in SqueezeIR
(eg should home send codes as well as, or instead of, returning to the
home page? And should those codes be different if Home is pressed from
within Now Playing or from within Extras or whatever?). Some thoughts
on how you think the app should perform would be welcome.

In the meantime, I'm going to work on the following so there may not be
another release for a little while but at least I've shown that the
concept is sound.

I'm thinking of...
- reading LIRC files natively so they can just be dropped straight into
the applet.
- Making the SqueezeIRData file into xml so it's easier to read.
- Improving the logging and error-trapping routines.
- Using the applet installer so you don't have to SCP into the SBC to
install it.
- Interfacing somehow with irBlaster to enable learned commands from
that plugin to be loaded onto the SBC.
- Maybe even doing a squeezecenter plugin to allow the config file to
be edited graphically and then uploaded to the SBC but I've not looked
at plugins at all.

Any pointers on how to read LIRC files or xml from within lua would be
most welcome.

Cheers
