Actually, the easiest explanation for what you're seeing would be
this:

1). At some point in the past you installed SrvrPowerCtrl and disabled
the idle player monitor.

2). Sometime recently, you updated SrvrPowerCtrl to a more recent
version. Recent versions added net & disc I/O monitoring and cpu load
monitoring so that the "idle player" monitor became the "idle system"
monitor. Thus, with the new version, the idle system monitor was
re-enabled (without your knowledge & without your consent! Sorry!!)
And even though the idle system monitor is still not monitoring
players, it's probably monitoring network I/O, timing out at the
appropriate time and attempting to suspend your server.

Check your settings. Under the "System Idle Monitor" section, you can
now easily disable the monitor by unchecking the "Monitor the system
for idle conditions?" option. Alternately, make sure the sliders for
network, disc & cpu thresholds are all set to 0. A zero setting
disables that particular idle check.

Finally, as to why pm-suspend is failing to suspend you system, I can
think of only two plausible reasons:

1). pm-utils isn't installed. (sudo apt-get update && apt-get install
pm-utils).

--or--

2). There's a permissions problem in /etc/sudoers. Try:

# sudo cat /etc/sudoers | grep 'pm-suspend'

..that should show you the entry:

squeezeboxserver ALL = NOPASSWD: /usr/sbin/pm-suspend*

..which indicates that the squeezeboxserver user has passwordless
permission to run pm-suspend. If that entry isn't there, then
SrvrPowerCtrl will never be able to suspend the system.

Again, the appropriate settings for the sudoers file is documented in:
