I was looking in the logs and noticed that all my ios8.4 devices were doing AirPlay over IPv6 but my ios9 device was doing IPv4. So I edited avahi-daemon.conf to disable IPv4 advertising and sure enough my ios9 device started connecting via IPv6 but it still will not play. I took a look at the plugin and most of the handling of the incoming connection is handled in the plugin. I thought all the AirPlay stuff was handled in the helper binary. So simply taking shairport-sync and making a few changes and dropping it in isn't possible.
