You do not touch convert.conf - you create a custom-convert.conf file. All the file you create for your task must be "custom-" one. Do not alter the standard files.
Don't make rapid knee jerk changes to the conf files in the hope of finding the right settings - they need to be thought and planned out not trial and error. You need to define your test cases to cover all circumstances. When you test musty be eble logging player.source to DEBUG but be careful some message may appear to be out of sequence so don't jump to conclusions. I think you don't understand what I suggested regarding bit rate.
