Alex looked at Nick while Derek was facing off with the woman.  Mahel's hold on her had been broken with his death but she had been waiting for a way to get Nick untied.  She looked into Nick's gaze now and urged him to keep up the act as she reached up and slowly undid his bindings.   Act like you're under my control, she thought, hoping Nick caught on and played along.  Which he did.   They both played their parts and waited for the chance to let Derek know they were both ready to make a break for it.
