"You have a dress," Derek asked in surprised. After all they had only been
engaged a couple of hours. How in the world did that happen?

Julia chuckled and admitted "It's my mother's dress, the one in the pictures
I showed you."

A 'beach' wedding dress as her mom called it. The only thing missing from
the soft ivory and pale pink design was a shawl and Julia knew just the kind
she wanted to get; soft in fabric and color. Julia thought of free spirits
and the kind of class she always associated with her mother. A 'lady of
free spirit'.

The thought of her mother today, of all days, brought a soft smile to her
lips as she looked out the window.

Then she looked at Derek's profile and smiled again, ducking her gaze as if
something on the console had grabbed her attention.

As the ferry docked, Derek turned on the SUV and drove as direct. He headed
downtown and parked in a lot near city hall and quite a bit of shopping.

Taking Julia's hand he headed for City Hall and ask the woman at the front
desk about marriage licenses. They were directed to the third floor where
paperwork was required and then Derek was told to wait while they made
arrangements with the health department for his blood test.

Once they were ready he was told to go to the first floor. Derek took
Julia's hand and walked down with her. "Where should we meet? Do you want
me to call you when I'm ready and just meet back at the parking lot or I can
come pick you up."

"Umm, how about meeting me in the courtyard?" she asked, knowing she had
just enough time to go get something else she was thinking of getting.
