"Actually, I did," Derek said with a small grin. "My father was going to take me home, but got some news about an amazing find and they told him he had to report back immediately. I suppose he was worried that I wouldn't go home if he just stuck me on a train, so he took me with him. We ended up having a very nice time together, once he got over his initial reaction. Of course after that I didn't go much of anyplace for about three months."
