I have a dead 5300 mobo of some type (100 MHz CPU speed).  THe 
interesting thing I noted is that there appears to be one set of pads 
for a VRAM module that is empty.  Did lower models of the 5300 only 
come with 1/2 the VRAM ?

A bus to CPU ratio of 3.5, as opposed to 3.0 for the 100 MHz unit. 
Both have 33 MHz bus speeds.

Yes.  You could transplant one.  I hope to (soemtime) transplant a 
180 MHz 603 into a Duo 2300, but I am not brave enough.  The pins are 
just too damn tight.
