I have a PowerComputing PowerTower Pro 225 that I recently picked up. I love this machine; it's very nice. I would seriously like to upgrade it, however, because many pieces of Mac software now call for a G3 or G4 processor, and even more now call for OS X. I like Sonnet's upgrade CPUs and I'd like to buy one, but I read on Apple's website that OS X may not support upgrade CPUs. Have any of you managed to get OS X running on a PowerTower or other pre-G3 clone?
I'm also trying to get Apple Disc Burner working on my machine, with OS 9.1 and an IDE burner from LG. The download site on Apple says its only requirement is OS 9.1, which I have. But when I downloaded it the installer program said that it was "incompatible with my computer." Has this problem happened with any of you? Is it fixable or will I have to fork over $100+ for Adaptec Toast?
Sincerely yours,
Jack Mileur
