I used to use Default Folder under 9 (several years ago now); it was
great.  Maybe I will try out the OS X version.  It bothers me though that
such third-party extensions are required to make a system usable; then
when I go to do something on someone else's box, I forget that I have to
stumble.

DragThing is great; I've been using it for a couple of years now.
