Greetings Shangara, I use Nikon Digital equipment. I make 12 x18 images everyday. And when I couldn't see any difference between shooting Nef, Tiff, and JPG Fine I went the way of least resistance. This is not to say that a scientist couldn't prove the superiority of the Nef over a Jpeg Fine.
We old timers, that have mastered shooting transparency film find it more convenient shooting Tiff or JPG Fine rather than Nef, since we find it more familiar and easier to do our general editing in the camera. Here is my general workflow. I use this workflow because it gives me very consistent reliable results. I get a great first print everytime. There are many other methods depending on the equipment you use and type of photograher you are. If anyone can see some obvious improvement let me know. Here's my workflow: 1. Shoot the image using JPG FINE. 2. Upload images to a directory on my PC and set to Read only. 3. Open an image in Photoshop and covert it to a TIFF 4 Edit Image and save with layers in case I need to change it later. 5 Save the same image with no layers as a STN file. (Genuine Fractal Pro Plugin Format) 6 Open the STN File and resize for printing. 7. Save the resized STN as a TIFF for printing later. 8 Print TIFF file on Xerox Docucolor Laser Printer or HP 2500CP or HP 5000 That's my basic workflow. I use Adobe RGB 1998 ICC profile thru the whole process. The printers are set to handle the Adobe RGB 1998 ICC profile appropiately. I use HP wide format printers, because their quality and archival properties are next to none when I use the HP UV Pigment Ink. All the prints on the HP's are rated to last for 100+ years. There are claims of 200 years as well. But, I think I'll be long dead before I know for sure. Feel free to dig me up and tell me!
