Stephen, I am not familiar with the 1ds specifically, but there is certainly no reason to assume that the compression ratio's used in camera equate to those in PS. If resaving too JPEG after PS activity, I would go for a maximum quality level 12 job and suffer the extra size. This 6.1mb file size is after all a lot less than if you were to save as a Tiff or PS file which would not involve any lossy compression and preserve ultimate quality.
