I don't remember that being the case, scientifically. The grades need to be
measurable, yes, but noticeable, that depends on how hard you are looking.

I seem to remember you demonstrating that the steps "could" be seen (you
gave a method of demonstrating this very fact). Its just that normally you
won't be able to see them. Are you saying that just because you can't see
something, its not there?

Does the Oxford English really say this? Does it not differentiate between
the terms "visible degradation" and "degradation". I can't believe that. I
haven't got a copy of the big OED so can't check. My humble version
certainly makes no mention of the fact that the amount has to be a "visible"
one, just that it has to be an amount. Amounts surely come in various sizes,
not all visible. If something is to degrade, it must surely be by a
measurable amount, not necessarily a visible amount.

PS - I you stick a blind man in front of your monitor, and he messes up you
image (degrades it) he won't see a visible difference. Does that mean its
not there?
