I was told by an ex-Leeds employee (now Calumet) that Calumet have nothing to do with anything that Leeds bought, and that I should refer to Sangers as they were the parent company of Leeds. I've so far failed to get any response at all from Sangers. If anyone knows the legal position on this I'd be grateful to hear.
Dear Joanna
My understanding is that when a company takes over another then they take on it's liabilities. This was confirmed the BIPP legal bureaux when I rang them this afternoon. They also say that the credit company can be held responsible for the defect camera for the same length of time as the seller. New legislation which came into force as of 31st March this year allows you to peruse the credit card company for any amount from 100 up to 30K within a six year time scale. It was suggested to me that you put in a claim to both the seller and the credit card company immediately.
The above is based on a combination of your guarantee with the goods and your expectation of how long one would reasonably expect the goods to be in a marketable condition....clearly six months is now good enough.
I hope that the new owners of Leeds stop prevaricating and sort you out with a replacement camera pronto as legally required. No doubt there will be many here taking note of how and how quickly this is resolved to your satisfaction, and make their future buying decisions accordingly!
Cheers
