Jay,

What's an OS 9 formatted CD?....<g>

Can't be done...Do you mean while booted into OS 9?....

What if the CD has a Mac volume?....I may be wrong but I don't think WinXP
can open Mac volumes any more than any of the other Win OS's (I have very
minimal experience using WinXP)...At least, not without shelling out for
extra software.

Not needed. OS X is more compatible with ALL the OS's than WinXP, or any of
the other Win OS's.

Just grabbed three CD's burned in OS 9x on different media going back a
couple of years and they mount without a problem and I can read and copy the
files without a problem. Be happy to open "all" the files on those CD's if
someone pays me...However, I'm willing to bet they will all open...

CD Format: Mac OS Standard & ISO 9660.

OS: OS X 10.3 Panther.

I know you meant well but trying to paint Microsoft in a better light at the
expense of Apple on a list is a no-no...<g>

David, apart from different OS's, you are also using different machines, so
I wouldn't conclude from that that it's the OS X that's at fault. More,
ummm, scientific testing is needed...
