Computers and OS's are incredibly complex beasts, I'm just amazed how far
they have come in such a short space of time. When you see the silky smooth
rendition of the user interface in OS X 1.3, you will be gob smacked. A very
far cry from, uhum, the DOS interface.

It's worth doing a trawl of the Mac forums and the tech docs on the Apple
site to see if someone has a solution to your problem. And worth doing
something, uhum, "unscientific" like running MacJanitor and then repairing
your user privileges.
