I seem to remember that, for general purposes, the optimum aperture is equal, or a close approximation of the well size. For 6.3MP Phillips chips with a well size of 12 microns, f11 is optimum. Newer Dalsa 11MP chips with a well size of 9 microns, f8 is optimum.
