Thanks Bob, I've already been there. I have 3 drives with startup
systems, one with 10.3.2 & all the bells & whistles that I normally use,
one clean 'out of the box' 10.3.2 & one 10.2.8 with a few additions
(Wacom, Quickeys & stuff). Neither of the Panther drives will run the
scanner though they will run the DDS3 backup on the same scsi chain. The
old Jaguar drive works everything perfectly.

There was an extension that Adaptec asked me to try removing
(Adaptec78XXSCSI.KEXT), I did that but no change.

Nope...

I am coming to the conclusion that there is a real underlying problem in
the way the scanner talks scsi to Panther. The Apple lists speak of a
problem with Panther's scsi implementation so I need Apple to fix this or
for Vuescan or Microtek to find a work around.

For now I am batching the scanning & rebooting back down to Jaguar which
at least keeps me in business.
