I'm pretty sure you didn't say you were using a RIP. I suspected you were
because, AFAIK, the large format Epsons come with a RIP; whereas the A3, A4
do not and you have to invest in one, which a lot of people don't. They
normally just send the data straight to the printer driver. That's why I
said the 1/3rd rule is a good one if sending data straight to the driver (if
I didn't, I meant to!).

The combination of the profile and the RIP can make a lot of difference to
the output. So, while one 7600 may perform at its optimum at 360, another
may do likewise at 400. Be interesting to read the results of your test. Do
post info about the profile and the RIP too, though, and not just the
optimum ppi.
