I will do specimen prints (30 x 24 equivalent) at 180, 240, and 360 dpi this afternoon, and let you know.
To use a well known English saying: "I'll go to the foot of my stairs"!!! I cannot tell any difference between any of the prints. There is no increased 'grain' or any other evidence of deterioration between the 360 and 180 dpi prints at all!! Clearly, the important point is to make sure that the output resolution is divisible into 720. This leads me to my next point: since it is clearly important to use the best possible resolution for the initial capture, is must also be important to manipulate the image in PS at the best practicable resolution ( presumably at a multiple of 180 - say 360) to preserve the maximum detail and best tonal range? Then all that would be necessary would be to drop the file to 180 dpi just before printing. Is this logical or just nerdish nonsense!? I could experiment to find the answer here but why reinvent the wheel (unless I have to!).
