I think he means it would be interesting to see if dropping the resolution
down to 240 ppi (when outputting to an inkjet which has its resolution in
the printer driver set to 720 dpi) creates an inferior print to one printed
at 360 ppi.
Remember, an inkjet does not normally lay down dots in the same way that
offset printers do (their dots are made of cells and can be counted). So
measuring how many dpi an RGB printer is laying down is not the same art as
measuring how many dpi an offset printer is laying down. I'm by no means an
expert when it comes to printing and printers and will happily doff my cap
to those who have RGB/CMYK fingers!
If you do a search on Google for 240 ppi +Epson under the Groups tab, you
will find some interesting posts - of course, the only way to test whether
what they say is true or not is to do the tests yourself.
Best Wishes for the New Year.
