You miss the gist of the wisdom I was trying to pass on. I wasn't talking
about scale but preparing for more than one possible future. Applied to the
current thread, it means what's good for one portrait may not be good for
another portrait, so test other "possible" futures and arm your self.

And the problem isn't necessarily going to be solved by using the original
or a higher res file and simply plugging in a different resolution. Your
understanding of how to interpolate a file up/down and how you sharpen it
will have a bigger impact on the outcome.
